Behold, I stand at the door and knock,
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,
I will come into him and dine with him,
And him with me.
Revelations 3:20 (NIV)
Artwork for 2010
I have always enjoyed drawing but I had not done much since leaving school. In 2010 I decided to have another try at it and found that I could still draw. As I practised I found an urge to try watercolour painting. I was fascinated by it, and was amazed what could be achieved by learning a few techniques.

This is my first attempt at a watercolour painting. There is room for much improvement.

This is an exercise in creating snow without using white paint.

I tried to apply more pen techniques to this painting.

This is an example of what you get when you mix more that two colours together. It is called 'mud'. Try to avoid this.

This is my second attempt at the same subject. I applied a technique and made some progress.

The technique used on this watercolour painting is called pen and wash.

This is an example of negative painting.
My first Watercolour paintings
I decided to include my first watercolour paintings to illustrate how little I knew about how to use this medium. You can see a little progress in the second painting after I had learnt a technique.

I used the same techniques that I used in the snow painting to paint this picture.

Only two colours were used in this painting, blue and yellow.

First attempt at painting mountains.
Painting Techniques
I learnt my first painting techniques from a Peter Saw dvd. Here are some examples

Painting Techniques
From a watercolour painting book by Gordon McKenzie, I leant some more techniques. He had a passion for painting water.

Doodles
Most of these doodles are experimental.

Painting Challenge
These paintings were submitted on a watercolour website that I was part of. Every month they submitted a picture from which I had to create a watercolour painting.

Painting Challenge
This painting by Renoir was a painting challenge for March 2011. I wanted to see if I could convert the original oil painting into a watercolour painting. I took pictures of my progress and it took me one month to complete it. Because I was new to watercolour painting I used just three primary colours. This kept the painting consistent throughout.

Serene
I was doing an online art course provided by the London College of Art. With this assignment I had to illustrate serenity. Below are the different compositions I looked at before choosing one.

Movement
With this assignment I had to illustrate movement. Below are the sketches I made before selecting one.

Live model drawing
I attended a live art model drawing class in Tottenham. The teacher give us a time restriction for each pose. Sometimes 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10minutes or longer. This encourage us to draw quickly keeping the picture lively and interesting.
